Long Words and a Short Temper

Don’t mess with convention

As a web designer I find insights into visitors’ heads highly valuable… and I’ve just had an insight into my own! Went to the Clarins online store and knew exactly what I wanted. Typed a reference straight into the search box top right… and it rejected my “invalid email”.

Another look… it’s the newsletter sign-up, the search box is bottom right. Search boxes are always top right! It never occurred to me to doubt that a little box top right would be anything else but a search.

Top tip: don’t mess pointlessly with convention unless you make it really obvious… anything that makes buying slower sends your buyers to somebody else. Me, I believe in slow living and I’m never in that much of a hurry, but I ain’t your typical 2010 ‘net user!
