Black & blowy; Cornwall is Grand
It’s just gone eight in the evening. It’s a black and blowy night - I know this since I’ve just ventured out to the outer harbour and sniffed the air; black sea, looming cliffs, a stiff breeze, the beginnings of rain. Glorious. Only Cornwall does glorious drizzle.
Over the village a few noisy but undemanding fireworks are going off; small back-garden family affairs just squeezed in before the weather worsens and the kids have to go to bed. Beyond the lighthouse a confusion of masts, spars and rigging is visible where the lights of a moored tall-ship, swung bow-to in the strong off-shore breeze, shine and dazzle. Two masts, maybe three, cut with the strong horizontal lines of the yards, a tangle of ropes as rigging is layered over its neighbours by perspective. It’s a stirring sight.
It’s a stirring place.
Cornwall is grand.
I never get bored of photographing small boats; so photogenic. They’re the puppies of the shipping world. You can almost see them wag their tails.

There I was chatting to my next-door-neighbour about plumbing and leaky pipes, when we somehow got round to the fact that I sell things online. “You can sell my pots” he said. So I thought… why not?
Philip makes lovely little pots in a variety of tasteful glazes, many with a marine / seaside theme to their decoration. In keeping with my belief in taking things slowly, I’ve opened my pottery shop on eBid.net with just two items. Philip’s closed for the winter now, but if there’s a sudden rush I can always get hold of him. :o)
And should the rush never materialise, well, it’s been fun having a go, and I really enjoyed designing the pages for selling. Sand and seashells, so refreshing to play with in the depths of Winter. Feel free to go for a paddle! xx
Went for a walk between tea & mince-pies with Richard-the-framer (neighbour) and bottling red peppers. It was too lovley a day to spend indoors completely, even when the time indoors was being so well spent! So lucky to have all this on my doorstep.
